ETTA South-East Regional Coach, Craig Bryant, is heading up an intensive coaching week at Forest School in Horsham this coming summer holiday and will be supported by a strong support team of coaches, sparrers and multiballers.
The K2 TT factory is churning out two more events this coming June. On the 16th the Sussex 2-Star Series will see the biggest gathering of English stars in Sussex for some time as many players ranked in the country's top 20 are committed to being there. On 24th June another Sussex Circuit event will drive progress from the bottom up direction to service the needs of younger and developing players.
The Sussex County Table Tennis Association's Junior Match Secretary, Peter Baldwin has just reported on another season of excellent progress for the county's cadet and junior teams. It's refreshing that for a county association that has just started to take its participation development responsibilities more seriously the performance of its teams, junior and senior, has also been extended significantly showing that progress on both fronts simultaneously is possible and indeed go hand in hand.
There was a total entry of 65 players across six different age groups at the Crawley 2 Star on Friday 13th April. Thanks go to Tim Harris and the Organising Committee of the VETTS Southern Masters for the use of the venue on the Friday night before their weekend events.
The Sussex County Table Tennis Association is proud that three of the county’s top juniors who train at the Sussex Junior Elite Centre run by partner group the Sussex Table Tennis Alliance at Greenway School in Horsham and in Brighton-based regional talent programmes have been selected to play for England schools.
The Sussex Series has been a number of tournaments held at K2, Crawley, Sussex that have adopted the following principles: ability banded to ensure few mismatches; group formats to ensure all players play lots of matches; significant prize money - approximately £5,400 in cash and £2,500 in voucher prizes have been distributed this season.
The fifth Sussex circuit tournament in the 2011-2012 season kicked off at K2, Crawley on Saturday 21st April with 46 competitors, which was a really good turnout considering many players had other engagements with the schools and regional finals being played in Doncaster over the same weekend.
With the banded events completed the day before, it was now time for the main event in the Jarvis Sports Sussex Satellite Grand Prix - the Men’s Open. With £250 cash for the winner and £100 for the runner-up, a quality field of players was assembled. Indeed four players even flew over from France to take part.
There was a slightly lower entry for the Jarvis Sports Satellite Grand Prix this year with 74 entrants, compared to 101 last season. This was despite a doubling of the prize fund from last year’s event. Nevertheless there was still some excellent play to enjoy and admire.

Burgess Hill based young disability player Paul Nash is making good competitive progress. The youngster went to Crewe recently for the BTTAD National Championships and did well.
The Sussex table tennis event programme keeps on building with a number of events coming up over the spring period. Certainly if TT competition is your thing you're in a land of plenty if you live in Sussex or close by.

Next round of the Brighton Junior League run by Brighton City TTC is running at Patcham High School on Thursday 22 March. Organiser Tim Holtam is keen to see lots of beginner juniors enter in particular.
The Eastbourne Table Tennis League is running its annual junior development tournament at the Shinewater Sports Centre on Saturday 14th April.
Hot on the heels of another successful Sussex Circuit event, Steve Pound from the Sussex County Table Tennis Association is promoting two more Circuit dates for K2 Crawley - Saturday 28th April and Sunday 24th June.
The fourth Sussex Circuit of the 2011-12 season took place this Saturday 10th March at K2 with 60 competitors, the biggest turn out so far this season. The organisers expressed thanks to all those that took part and the many helpers who assisted on the day. The event used 12 tables across four badminton courts in what are some of the best conditions for table tennis in the country.
This year witnessed a low entry of 25 players turn up to this year’s county closed championships at K2 Crawley - from an estimated playing community in the county of over 900 players this was disappointing. The event was arranged to coincide with the National Championships which would account for two young players and there was a clash with National Junior League which would account for a few more young players.
Children with disabilities at Manor Green Primary School in Crawley have been receiving table tennis taster sessions as part of a Horsham Table Tennis Club school-link project funded by the Accentuate scheme and practically supported by Horsham District Council.
The West Sussex Schools Table Tennis Association is running a three-day Easter Table Tennis Camp at Forest School, Horsham on Tuesday 10th, Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th April. The camp will be led by West Sussex Schools Coach Martin Jezisek supported by a team of assistant coaches and sparrers and will cater for players of all levels.
Kingslea and Heron Way primary schools in Horsham are celebrating after both receiving news that they have been successful in securing funds from the Sport England Small Grants scheme to each install two outdoor table tennis tables in their playgrounds as part of projects to increase sports participation among their pupil populations.
Jolesfield and Upper Beeding primary schools contested the Henfield/Steyning Area Primary Schools Competition last week at Henfield Leisure Centre. The Beedies won the matchplay competition and the Jollies the skills event title in an afternoon of great fun and sportsmanship.

City College Under 19s Boys Team finished third at the ESTTA Regional Finals at the Portchester School in Bournemouth.
Clemsfold House, near Broadbridge Heath, is the latest care home to join in with the Silver Pingers table tennis project that Horsham District Council's Leisure Link team is running in partnership with Horsham Table Tennis Club.
St Andrew's School from Worthing won the boys event in a recent year 7 and 8 table tennis competition attended by six teams and staged at Angmering Sports College by the West Sussex Schools TT Officer, Martin Jezisek. Angmering's girls took advantage of home familiarity by beating Downsbrook.
Not content with growing reputations as table tennis players Brighton City youngsters David Pringuer, George Tester and Paul Bergin are starting to become recognised for their coaching acumen as well. They were three of only 16 table tennis coaches to be invited to a National Young Coaches Academy organised by the Youth Sport Trust at Loughborough University recently.
The weekend of the 21st and 22nd January was one of the County Championships’ big 2011/12 weekends and as it happened turned out to be a significantly historical one for Sussex table tennis. It was the weekend for the cadet county championships and it took place at Westfield Table Tennis Club, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. We took one extra boy and our players were Lois Peake, Emma Sheen, Helshan Weerasinghe, Jack and Josh Bennett and Daniel Pound.

The tournament is being held in Crawley but is open to all organisations in Sussex.

94 children from six schools made for the biggest and best ever Horsham area primary schools table tennis team championships at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre yesterday. With a skills event and the matchplay events being run in four banded sections there was plenty of opportunity for success to be shared around and Heron Way, Warnham and Kingslea schools were the chief beneficiaries of that fact.
The South East Region is holding an Open / Assessment Day on Sunday 12th February from 10:00am - 16:00pm at Angley School, Cranbrook, Kent.
The third of this year’s Sussex Circuit tournaments was completed on Saturday 4th February alongside the county matches at K2 Crawley. Thirty-four kids competed for medal positions in Band A and B events in both the morning and afternoon while 10 of their county team mates competed in the Cadet County Championships.
The East Sussex Schools individual championships were held at St Leonards Academy on Wednesday 1st February. There was a great atmosphere and 50 players involved. The winners now have an opportunity to go on to the national schools table tennis individuals finals.

The West Sussex Schools TT Association is promoting its 2011-12 individual championships which will run on 18th February at Warden Park School, Cuckfield, 10am-4pm. Winners will go on to represent West Sussex at the Dome in Doncaster on 21st April.
Westlake House on Pondtail Road, Horsham is the latest residential care home to get the ping pong bug under Horsham District Council's Silver Pingers project. Seven of their residents participated using the equipment that Council staff imported for the morning.
