Match Night Briefing

BEFORE PLAY

  • The hall will be accessible to players from 7pm
  • All players should aim to arrive at the venue as close to 7pm as possible
  • All players should be prepared to contribute to the set up of the hall on arrival. Under 14 year olds should not get involved with moving or (un)folding the tables but can help with nets and barriers
  • 9-table set-up layout that should be followed for each match night unless specifically advised by an organiser in charge

  • Scoresheets, clipboards, pens and match balls will be available from the control desk for collection at the start of the night

DURING PLAY

  • Two team matches (each of 9 individual player matches) will be played over 3 tables, with the captains of the 4 teams involved cooperating to ensure that the middle table is shared appropriately to ensure that matches are completed by 10pm (the time the hiring goes up to and which all sports activity in the hall is meant to finish for the evening).
  • There are two scoresheets to complete for each match - the main scoresheet and the subsidiary scoresheet. The purpose of the filling in subsidiary sheet is to record scores from the second table in use so as to avoid disrupting the other match to transfer scores across.
  • Players should be prepared to umpire when they are not playing. Umpiring responsibilities should be shared fairly and equally. This will involve each player umpires at least one match during the evening.

AFTER PLAY

  • Once all games in a match have been completed results from the subsidiary scoresheet should be transferred to the main scoresheet.
  • Captains should ensure the main scoresheet is completed as fully as possible and then leave both the main and subsidiary copies along with clipboard, pen and match balls at the control desk
  • All players should contribute to the set down of the tables from their match - folded up tables should be moved into the storeroom as safely and quitely as possible so as not to disturb other matches in progress. If you finish and are unable to access the storeroom because of other matches still in progress please set-down your area as much as possible and leave the equipment in situ.

GENERAL NOTES

  • Toilets - nearest mens and ladies toilets are separately located just off the main ground floor access corridor (ie opposite side of the corridor from which the doors to the main sports hall are located)
  • Evacuation - a distinctive and continuous alarm followed by a tanny announcement would signal the need to evacuate. Emergency exit doors are marked on both sides of the hall. In the event of an evacuation people should go to either of the following meeting points depending on which side they exit the building - back of athletics track if stadium side, back of the main car park park (nearest side to the road) if front side
  • Bar - the centre's bar is located at the top of the stairs which can be seen directly in front of you once you have passed by the reception desk. The bar is open to 11pm
  • Results and reports will be posted to the SCTTA website

CODE OF CONDUCT

  • Mobile phones should be turned off or on to silent in the playing hall. If people want to use a mobile they should go out of the playing hall to do so.
  • Players should not behave in an aggressive or intimidating way towards their opponent in anything other than their play. Physical or verbal gestures liable to be interpreted as offensive by opposing players should be avoided but self-directed gestures should be tolerated
  • Players should aim to play matches fairly in accordance with the laws of the game and in good spirit
  • A playing hall with 9 tables in action is likely to be an environment that has a fair degree of background noise (including some talking), movement (including players and spectators walking in non-playing 'corridors') and occasional 'excitable outbursts' from other tables. Players are encouraged to adopt a positive and tolerant mindset to these factors.
