EAST SUSSEX TABLE TENNIS DEVELOPMENT MEETING NOTES - 29/6/09

ATTENDERS

Ian Ford (SCTTA Devt Officer), Tony Rowell (Eastbourne TTL Devt Officer), Teresa Bennett (Rother and Hastings School Sport Coordinator), Nick Standen (Hollington TTC)

APOLOGIES

Kevin Haffenden (Battle TTC), Jim West (Hailsham TTC)

DEVELOPMENTAL CONTEXT

  • Development strategy an opportunity to provide value for money for club/player affiliations to SCTTA
  • SCTTA not had any significant developmental impact previously but understandable given size/diversity of the county - need more decentralised and bottom-up approach

SUSSEX STRATEGY UPDATE

  • IF presented the Sussex Strategy proposal
  • Participation strand - still to be formally written but work already in progress, particularly in regard to school competition planning. In East Sussex seeking to create 3 school TT competition networks - Rother/Hastings (existing), South Downs (incl Eastbourne) (new) and Brighton and Hove (new). TB was applying for outdoor tables at a school through Youth Opportunities Funding - potential case study of good practice to encourage others. Agreed there may be scope for development of additional community coach roles if clear plan of action to secure funding from different sources to kick-start a role. North, South and West area development groups now in place.
  • Performance strand - written document coming into wide circulation. Sport England small grants bid being prepared. Key elements - Junior Elite Performance Centre, Triangle Training Evenings, Sussex Super League, Early Talent Squads and coach development.
  • Events strand - dependent on Triangle funding bid decisions which still awaited
  • Facility strand - still to be properly researched and written

EAST SUSSEX DEVELOPMENT NETWORK FORMATION

  • IF advised that should be regarded as more of a communication network than a committee, although meeting at least once a year formally would be useful
  • IF advised that should formally constitute as another avenue for funding applications - IF to send TB constitution template
  • TB felt the group best formed separately to the East Sussex Schools TT Association
  • TR suggested that group would provide useful support to him in his Eastbourne League role. IF to liaise with TR separately to support him to learn more about TT development initiatives such as ETTA Premier Club

PRIORITIES

  • TB suggested it would be a good idea to organise an inter-club talent evening (probably at Battle TTC) in early autumn term. This would be a good focus to bring in other East Sussex TT development people to talk about possible development initiatives that could be better undertaken with inter-club cooperation. TB to advise on date/venue ASAP
